Prize Winners at the Golf Turkish Airlines World Cup
The Turkish Airlines World Cup Golf is the widest reaching corporate golf tournament in the World with players competing for the chance to win a place in the Grand Final at the 5-star Titanic Deluxe Belek resort in October.
With almost 8,000 participants across 60 countries competing, participating in a regional qualifier is the first step towards the Grand Prize and Guide Security rose to the challenge and attended the UK regional qualifiers on the 30th August at the Royal Birkdale golf course in Southport. Following an open invitation to our clients and network, we carried out a selection process to choose who would represent Guide Security at this prestigious event. The lucky golfers were Liam O’Connor – 31 and Tom Copper – 54.
Liam O’Connor, an Insolvency Technician, has been actively playing golf since being a Junior. Now a member of Didsbury golf club, competing in the Turkish Airlines World Cup Golf was an experience he’ll never forget. ‘I was absolutely delighted and grateful to be given the opportunity to represent Guide Security,’ shares Liam. ‘To play on the Royal Birkdale golf course and compete against the best in the region has been both challenging and rewarding. It was a huge confidence booster and I’ve not played on a course like Royal Birkdale before, so wasn’t sure how I would handle it. However, I found I wasn’t fazed at all and just embraced the moment’.
Our other player, Tim Cooper – a Manufacturing Engineer and scratch player, is no stranger to the game of golf or Royal Birkdale. ‘I’ve played the course before so was very excited to have the opportunity to play it a second time,’ shares Tim. ‘The day exceeded my expectations. I started off poorly, but soon picked up my game and got into the rhythm’.
Other players on the day included former cricketers David Lloyd & Michael Vaughn and current England cricket captain Joe Root. ‘To be playing alongside these guys was a delight,’ says Liam. ‘I’m sat eating lunch with these guys and you just have to soak up the atmosphere and really appreciate where you are.’
Tim continues, ‘It really was a well-organised and exciting day. I’ve always loved the game of golf and the challenges it brings. To be able to be a part of the Turkish Airlines World Cup Golf qualifiers is something I won’t forget any time soon.’
Both our players finished the day with a win. Liam came third overall and Tim got the prize for Best Gross Score. Congratulations to them both.
